Sketch Friday: a Robot Banana riding an Elephant. Also, Yellojacket.
on March 4, 2011 at 6:00 pmEvery once in a while I put out a call for requests for sketches on Twitter. I’ve ended up sketching Darth Vader with a kitten and Cyborg Scrooge McDuck punching Hitler. So when Liz requested “a robot banana riding an elephant” I wasn’t shocked. The Scrooge McDuck one caught me off guard though.
Anyway, here it is!
I took the opportunity to work with my brush pens. I’m trying to work on using them for variable line thickness, since that’s what they are really great for. I still need a lot of practice in that regard. I really like the way the RoboBanana turned out, and since I’ve never even attempted to draw an elephant I’m quite pleased with him as well!
Since I did the above really quick I wanted to sketch something else, but wasn’t feeling up for something big and elaborate. Then I came up with the idea for the sketchcard below. Its much more stylistic than my usual stuff, which is fun to do every once in a while. Hank Pym is one of my favorite comic book characters, and I’ve always loved the ridiculous shoulder fins on the Yellowjacket costume. Seriously, why would you put giant blinders on yourself if you’re going to fight crime?!
If I had made this a month ago I totally would have given it away as a Valentines. But not to my wife, because Hank Pym (in)famously hit his wife while wearing this costume.
If you’d like me to do a sketch request you can hit me up on Twitter, Facebook, or just post a comment on the most recent Sketch Friday post! I’m up for basically anything and always looking for interesting things to sketch. Suggest away!!
